Resources for this week are: P.E. (Tues) and Media (Fri). Thursday evening there is a PTA Meeting and 5th Grade is scheduled to perform. Friday is Sports Day!! Plus we have two students joining the six year old Club~ Bailey and Carmen!

Below is what we will be focusing on in class: Reading: We will be discussing how characters develop in different Gingerbread style books: Gingerbread Baby, Gingerbread Man, Gingerbread Girl, etc. We will then use a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the books. The Sight Words for this week are: make, have, in, is. We will continue practicing rhyming, blending, segmenting, phoneme deletion and beginning sounds of words. Each of these items is done for about two minutes. Practice rhyming and blending. When choosing books to read with your child this week, find books that you can compare and contrast the characters.

Enjoy the different books:

Writing: We will continue Informational/ Procedural. We will be using the book Pancakes, Pancakes to stress how important steps are. Students will then work on writing their own piece with the steps in the correct order.
At home you will want to focus on the steps for a topic. (Some easy topics are: making a bowl of cereal, making an ice cream cone, getting in the car.) Write the steps with your child. (This is a lot of writing and the children get tired quick!)

Science/Social Studies: We will continue discussing how to change matter. On Thursday we will have our Chapter Test on Matter. Friday we will begin the next Chapter about Movement. Discuss the different ways objects can move: forwards and backwards, sideways, spinning, etc.

Math: We will continue working with the vocabulary equal, more and fewer. We will add greater than, less than and ordinal numbers: first, second, third, fourth and fifth. On Friday we will have our Topic Test.
At home, work with your child on comparing groups and using the vocabulary Greater and Less. Then line up five different toys in a line and ask questions about them. (Which toy is fourth in line? Which toy is second? etc.)

****Progress Report Testing begins next week!****
