Resources for the week are: Music (Mon), Art (Tues), Media (Wed) and Art (Thurs). There is no school on Friday (January 17), nor is there any school next Monday(January 20).
Enjoy the very long weekend! :)

Below is what we will be focusing on in class:
Reading: We will be reading the big book Mouse's Birthday by Jane Yolen. (I wasn't able to find a video of the book. But I did find one of the Author discussing the types of books she writes.)We will be discussing characters, setting and comparing Mouse's birthday to our own. We will learn about the different types of Connections~ Text- Self, Text-Text, Text-World. We will continue practicing rhyming, blending, segmenting, phoneme deletion and beginning sounds of words. We will begin our first Word Family, the -at Family.
When choosing books to read with your child this week ask them how they are like the main character and how they are different. Remind them that this is a Text-Self Connection. Then inform your child of a Text-Text Connection or a Text-Self Connection that you have.

Writing: Narrative Writing~ The class did great last week with "Story Stretching" and we are continuing it this week. :) The students will have four days to complete a Writing Piece for a grade. We will focus on spaces between words, capitalizing the beginning word of a sentence and putting punctuation at the end of each sentence.
At home ask your child about spaces (Where do spaces go?), capitalization (What kind of letter do you need at the beginning of your sentence?) and punctuation (What do you need at the end of your sentence?).

Science/Social Studies: We are beginning the Unit on Gravity. We will be watching Youtube Video's and discussing the definition of gravity. Enjoy the video's below.

Math: We are continuing to sort objects with different attributes. The students are doing great!!
We will also begin discussing sorting 3D shapes. We will be watching the video below daily so that the students are familiar with each shapes name and it's properties.
At home ask your child what the different attributes are that they can sort by. Answers should include: color, shape, size, weight, etc. After they name the attribute ask them to explain more. For example: size. They would say small, medium and large.
